Hello everyone! This is a subreddit for the free and open source music notation software MuseScore!Rules:.Please be productive in your posts. Please be respectful in comments and constructive criticism should OP ask for it.Tutorials are welcome! There are links below to other subreddits that are certainly helpful for making music, but maybe not specifically to Musescore. Should you find a tutorial or create one of your own that would be helpful to the readers here, please post it!.There are no dumb questions, just the fear of being embarrassed. Don't know how to do something?
Gould arrow quartertone accidentals are exported accurately to MusicXML 3.1; Finale adds a warning in an exported MusicXML file when Display in Concert Pitch is set and includes transposed music; Default fonts for text blocks and lyrics are now imported as font document options; Non-arpeggiate symbols are now imported; Undertie elisions are now imported.
We're here to help, and if we can't, there's either someone who can or we'll find a link to help!.Preferably no memes or macros, there's a subreddit for classical memes already linked down below, and I'm sure they'd appreciate it. Memes are fun! Here is not the place for them.Links:(if you would like to create plugins or directly help development of the software)Other Subreddits:(for all your classical funny-business).
Today, its flagship music notation software. I’d hoped that they’d make activation of Garritan Premium Libraries (GPO, JABB, World, etc) more intuitive, but sadly that is not the case. They do not show up as Devices in 26 after the upgrade – you have to do something to activate them, but their posted instructions do not work. Among other things, the instructions refer to a “Data” folder that does not exist in the suggested location. My advice – do not over-write 25 on install until this is straightened out. I’ll come back when I find the solution:)Meanwhile I’m still using 25, despite the performance improvements in 26. I’m looking forward to a solution. Also, re: reinstalling the libraries – one drawback I had encountered previously with the Garritan installation process is that it did not take care of these details – that is, installing the.xml and.soundmap files that connect these libraries to Finale.
Maybe they’ve upgraded the Garritan installers – I don’t really feel like going through a major download/upgrade to test itthe issue is, all these things need to be moved to make your old stuff work with the new Finale. I don’t know, maybe using the “over-write” installer might have prevented this – using all the old file paths but my trust level is not to the point that permits me to do that. If you have the time, you could copy the Patterson Beams bundle from the Fin25 plugin folder to somewhere in the Fin26 plugin folder and compare apples to apples.
Fin26 should recognize the older version. (Though Fin25 will not recognize the newer version.) If you do it, make sure Finale isn’t running when you do it.
(Or restart Finale after you do it.)There is no problem with running two versions of the plugin at the same time in Finale. (I usually have four or five different versions running so that I can compare if I think the results are wrong.) They show up as different menu items, based on the different folders or subfolders in which they reside.I certainly understand if you aren’t interested in pursuing it. But I am wondering if the slowness you observed could be the plugin rather than the Finale version. Hi Robert,Thanks for suggesting this. I tried this on my first test file.1. I ran Patterson Beams 5.11 (from lite version bundled with Finale v25) in Finale v26 and speed was 5.20 seconds.2.
Then I ran Patterson Beams 5.20 (from lite version bundled with Finale v26) in Finale v26 and speed was 8.65 seconds (similar to my published result of 8.80 seconds).Settings were identical in both versions. So indeed, it looks like it’s the newer version of the plug-in that is running slower, rather than Finale. If you can provide some more information, I’ll update the review. Thank you for checking. I was able to reproduce the issue here as well. It seems to be caused by a new feature added to the Patterson Beams after v5.11.
The new version recognizes expressions with certain canned Description fields that can be applied to cause the plugin to skip the beam or stem and/or change the behavior. (This allows you to rerun the plugin and skip manually edited beams.) It turns out that there is a great deal of churning going on with this feature.I intend to see if there is a more efficient way to do it. There may be some other improvements possible as well.
Hopefully these can be made available in a future dot release. Hi PhilipGreat review! I’ve been a Finale user since ’98 and have always just got on with formatting my pages by hand. But recently I downloaded the trial version of Dorico and, whilst there are things I need which Dorico just can’t do yet, it does have a very handy way of stopping things colliding with other things! I’ve managed to configure most items in Finale to stay out of the way most of the time but does Finale 26 do things like automatically move hairpins out of the way of staves/dynamics/notes etc.? Dorico just puts a hairpin under a bar in a sensible place and then moves it out of the way if you input any notes which go low enough to clash, whereas Finale lets you do what you want with them and sometimes that isn’t always a good thing as you have to manually move the hairpin if any clashing occurs.! Also moving tempo markings out of the way of chord symbols would be good.As an arranger and orchestrator, I am a very heavy user of Finale so anything to make things that bit quicker is always helpful.
I’ve tried a couple of different scoring programs recently and have decided that I do actually still like Finale but it would be so much nicer if it had the auto collision avoidance capabilities that others have. I am a power user and have sticked to 2011 because of the speed it offers is so much faster than any other versions that came after. However, with new Macs no longer supporting installing F2011, I can see the days of using it are numbered. My question is, how does v26 compared to 2011 in terms of sheer speed (navigating, note entry, etc.; does it stay fast after the file has been opened for more than a day? Have you tried manually adjusting beam position in Special tool? In v25 It’s excruciatingly slow) If it is now compareable to 2011, I can finally switch!

Thanks a million!. I have 14.5, v25, and v26. I have reverted to using 14.5. Here are the reasons why.1) A musx file save by V26 will have its articulation mangled if opened in v25. This, according to customer support, this is necessary to have the new articulation stacking work. So if you collaborate, all must be v26.
When installing v26, it asks you if you want to get rid of v25. DON’T DO IT.2) v25 produces pops and click when scrubbing or doing speed not entry with a midi KB. (various macs and OSXs) v26 may be better, but not by much. I bought it hoping that bug would be fixed.
Definitely a bug, because 14.5 NEVER had any issue like this. Customer service cannot explain. So it seems to me that MakeMusic is introducing more bugs than features. I doubt I’ll update anymore unless there is some improvement. I just upgraded to v26 unbeknownst that my OS (10.11.6 El Capitan) does not support this last version.
But to my surprise I was able to instal it and I started working with it. It seems to work fine. The only problem I’ve found so far is with the Smart Shape Tool. It doesn’t work with the usual double-click and drag anymore. But I found a way to work around it by pressing a designated key and drag (i. To place a slur, I press S and drag). I hope it doesn’t give me problems when I start creating parts!.
